Privacy statement

Who we are. The Decision Intelligence and Analytics Laboratory at the University of Otago runs this broker to connect people looking for research and work opportunities with organisations offering them. Contact: hello@decision.nz.
What we collect. When you create an account: your name, email address, and a password (we store only a hash of it). When you complete a profile: your level of study or role, programme, skills, interests, availability, location, links you choose to add, and a CV if you upload one. When you apply: the CV and any answers you submit. When an organisation registers: the organisation's details and the contact person's name and email. We also keep a log of actions taken in the system and the emails we sent you.
Why we collect it. To show you opportunities that fit you, to send you a weekly digest if you opt in, to pass your application to the organisation you applied to, to let a screening panel assess applications, to record placement outcomes for the lab's reporting, and to keep the service secure.
Who sees it. Your profile is never shown to organisations. When you apply, the CV, cover note, and answers you attach are shown to that organisation's members, any assessors assigned to that posting, and lab administrators. Lab administrators can see all records. We do not sell or share personal information with anyone else. Reports for the University or funders are aggregated and do not identify individuals.
Where it is stored. Account, profile, and application data is stored in a database in Sydney, Australia. Uploaded files are stored with Cloudflare. Emails are sent through Postmark, which keeps a copy of each message for up to 45 days. These providers process data on our behalf under their standard terms.
How long we keep it. Unverified accounts are removed after 7 days. Profiles with no sign-in for 18 months are removed after a warning. Applications that did not lead to a placement are removed 12 months after the posting closed. Placement records are kept for reporting. You can delete your account at any time, which removes your profile and any applications that have not led to a placement.
Your rights. You may ask to see the personal information we hold about you and ask us to correct it, by contacting hello@decision.nz. If you are not satisfied with our response you may complain to the Office of the Privacy Commissioner at privacy.org.nz.
Cookies. We use one session cookie so you stay signed in. No analytics or advertising cookies.
